Research & Development
Angus Soft Fruits has an unparalleled reputation for innovation within the soft fruit industry.
This is delivered through significant investment in R&D facilities, managed by ASF’s Technical Director, Dave Griffiths. The programme is focussed on the breeding of new varieties and the development of new production systems to extend the season of the best eating varieties and to reduce the costs of producing these. Recent examples include the development of the patented Seaton System which has extended the season of strawberry production such that ASF growers can supply Elsanta strawberries from May until September and Glen Ample raspberries from June until September.
Angus Soft Fruits developed the first premium strawberry variety, AVA, which allowed its retailer customers to segment their strawberry offers by including a premium tier.
ASF has formed reciprocal R&D arrangements with several of its overseas suppliers such that R&D ideas and techniques are shared at an early stage for the ultimate benefit of both parties.
