Sustainability
At Angus, we are committed to farming for the future, operating in a way that protects the land, the people and the communities we work with. Ethical and environmentally responsible practices are central to our business, across both our UK operations and our international supply base.
Caring for Our Land
We work with growers who take pride in farming in harmony with their natural environment. All our UK growers are LEAF Marque certified, and we continue to support more growers overseas to follow this benchmark for sustainable agriculture. Our agronomy team champions integrated pest management, helping growers make environmentally responsible decisions that protect plant health while encouraging biodiversity. This includes an ongoing increase in the use of biological controls across our farms.
Reducing Our Impact
We continuously look for ways to reduce waste and improve efficiency across our operations. At our packhouse in Salford Priors, investments in advanced optical sorting technology, improved processes and employee engagement have helped significantly reduce food waste. Where surplus fruit remains, we work with redistribution partners to ensure it is used to support our communities rather than going to waste.
Progress Through Innovation
Innovation plays an important role in reducing our environmental footprint. Our move towards lighter, recyclable packaging has already removed millions of unnecessary materials from our supply chain. Next, we’re striving to use the most efficient packaging on the market, improving on farm and packhouse operations whilst reducing our carbon footprint.
Championing Renewable Energy
Across our grower network, many farms are increasing their farm resilience by producing renewable power onsite. This includes wind, solar and biomass, helping to lower carbon emissions and support long-term sustainability in our farming communities.
Efficient Operations
We continue to make improvements in our own facilities, from energy-efficient lighting and upgraded equipment to reviewing how we cool and move fruit through our packhouse. These actions help us reduce electricity use, improve efficiency and operate more responsibly year after year.
Working Together
Sustainability is a collective effort. We work closely with our growers, suppliers, customers and partners to share best practice, drive improvement and promote responsible environmental and ethical standards across our entire supply chain. Our approach is rooted in collaboration and continuous progress, ensuring we always look for better ways to protect our environment and support a resilient future for berry production.
