Angus Soft Fruits was established in 1994 with the ambition to sell fruit directly to retailers and continually improve the product available to consumers. The business has expanded through collaboration with likeminded growers worldwide for year round supply.
1994
Angus Soft Fruits was established to market fruit directly to retail customers.
2001
Dave Griffiths and Lochy Porter developed the tabletop Seaton System, which stretched the growing season from May to September and made it easier to pick fruit.
2002
Angus Soft Fruits Breeding Programme was established – now known as AVA™ Berries.
March 2003
We imported our first strawberries and raspberries from Huelva in Spain.
May 2003
AVA™, the first strawberry variety from our own breeding programme is the first premium berry in the market in the UK market.
2005
We launched our Good Natured brand, expanding into a range of salads, potatoes, vegetables and growing herbs. We won several awards over the years.
2010
We opened our Salford Priors packhouse near Evesham which packs over 70 million units annually.
February 2014
We established a Strategic Partnership with Felgar Berries in Morocco.
May 2014
We launched our Angus Select brand.
2015
We launched our AVA™ Berries brand.
2016
We established Isle Fruits Ltd, which further stretched our UK season from March to December on 14ha of glasshouses in Somerset.
February 2018
AVA™ Leyre is our first Spanish premium strawberry.
May 2018
AVA™ Star and AVA™ Blush extend our premium offering in the market.
June 2018
AVA™ Star wins ‘Best new edible crop variety’ at Horticulture Week Business Awards. Being recognised for high quality taste, texture and appearance.
August 2018
We planted the first of the 100ha of blueberries at Nevado Escoces, a joint venture with Oscar du Blasis, located in Longavi in central Chile.
September 2018
We won ‘Foodservice Supplier of the Year Award’ at the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) Fresh Awards. We won ‘Own Label Supplier of the Year’ and ‘Fresh Product of the Year’ awards for our AVA™ Rosa variety at the Co-op & Scotmid Scottish Supplier Awards.
October 2018
We were named Fresh Produce Grower & Supplier of the year at the prestigious UK’s Fruit & Vegetable Awards.
July 2019
We established Angus Soft Fruits Maroc, in Agadir, Morocco, focused on procurement and 65ha of raspberry production.
August 2019
We established Agadir Oasis Berries, a joint venture with Nathanael Majster with 22.5ha of raspberries in Agadir in the south of Morocco.

We won ‘Foodservice Supplier of the Year’ at the FPC Awards.
October 2019
We won ‘Marketing or Digital Initiative of the Year Award’ at the UK Fruit & Vegetable Awards.
March 2021
We partnered with FareShare to donate surplus fruit, in a bid to support them fighting hunger and tackling food waste.

We won three awards at the MDS Ceremony, the ‘Peter Shepherd Award’ for continued support and two ‘Special Recognition Awards’ for our brilliant berry specialists.

Britains first berry supplier to use the new SPA Airlite Punnet. We because the first berry supplier to import strawberries using the new award winning SPA Airlite Punnet.

We officially became a ‘Young Person Guarantee’ and ‘Clean Sheet’ employer as part of our commitment to develop an inclusive and skilled workforce for the future of our business.

We are now a ‘Stronger Together Advance Business Partner’ for publicly demonstrating our commitment to tackling hidden labour exploitation.

We began measuring the impact of planting pollinator friendly conservation crops on uncropped areas, including fallow land, potato headlands and between tunnels.

We reached the 100,000 meal milestone. That’s the equivalent of just over 100,000 meals that have been redistributed to families, communities groups or charities throughout the UK through our fruit donations.

We launch AVA™ Dalicia and AVA™ Catalina. Intended for production in the Mediterranean region. Each variety has been bred to produce delicious fruit throughout the UK winter season.

We celebrated 30 years of Angus Soft Fruits.

We launch our works of art AVA™ Monet and AVA™ Dali. Developed for their premium quality, taste and ease of picking. This is our first year round commercial production of AVA™ raspberries.

We started trials with UK Agri-Tech Centre and Polybee to tackle pollination challenges in polytunnels and glasshouses by using drone technology.
May 2025
Working in collaboration with Saga Robotic, we deployed Thorvald robots using UV-C light treatment to control powdery mildew during Scotland’s exceptionally hot summer, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional fungicides while protecting crop quality and boosting yields.

We evolved our consumer brand Good Natured Berries and launched into retailers across Scotland.
